The Michaelmas edition of The Goat Post is up on the Goat Post page for your viewing pleasure! Have a flick through the articles, features and even the wildest Amsterdam stories from the craziest Fitz students.
And if you fancy writing for future editions of the Goat Post, do email the Publications Officer Danni at firstname.lastname@example.org.
REGISTER YOUR BIKES
Currently there are over 100 unregistered bikes chained to cycle racks around Fitz. Many of these bikes probably belong to no one and are out of use, hence it would be useful to free up the spaces. College are giving anyone with an unregistered bike until 15th February to get their bike registered. After this there will be a cull and any bikes not registered will be removed. These bikes will then be held for a week before being disposed of.
PLEASE REGISTER THEM SOON!
If you are on a year abroad/not in Cambridge in the next two weeks but have a bike in college for some reason give Fenella an email ASAP (email@example.com).
We have had 4 suggestions for the Fitz charity this year:
Students Supporting Street Kids: a student-run Cambridge charity which raises funds and awareness for children that spend most of their lives on the street, to help them realise their potential.
Ecologia Youth Trust: funds and supports Kitezh and Orion, two foster communities in the countryside in South West Russia. They work with orphaned and disadvantaged children in a country where therapy is still a massive taboo. Both communities provide the kids with an education, psychological and medical help and, most importantly, a loving family in which to grow up.
Campus Children's Holidays: it gives disadvantaged Liverpool children a free activity holiday week over summer - the kids are hard work but they love it!
British Beekeepers' Association: bees are so important to our eco-systems and are sadly facing huge dangers thanks to chemicals, diseases and the destruction of their natural habitats. Humans have no viable alternative for mass pollination.
Please vote in our poll by Monday (1st Feb) to have your say in which charity we support this year!
Good afternoon Fitz! Cosmic greetings from your stellar Ents team.
We're excited to announce that Fitz Up Look Sharp, bop extraordinaire, is coming back to the college on Friday 5th January following the huge success of the Fresher's week event. Your new and lovely Ents officers are hard at work (we swear) organising what we hope will be a FULS of a truly galactic scale. We are particularly excited to announce the appearance of Dustin, a Berlin DJ coming in from Germany to join us - a prolific presence in the Berlin club scene, he played the infamous Berghain with his label Giegling a couple weeks ago. In response to your puzzled looks, I hadn't heard of him either but people who know this guy are saying it's the biggest deal since the moon landings.
We've got all kinds of exciting extras going on to keep you fuelled up for the voyage - expect very reasonable drinks, all the best extraterrestrial chocolate bars and did someone mention glow sticks? Either way, it's guaranteed to be more of a supernova than a black hole. Dress up is mandatory of course. Anyone welcome so don't hesitate to grab your friends from other colleges!
Tickets will be on sale every day from now until the event - look for the Ents team located in a geostationary orbit outside the buttery. Alternatively pay online at this link. The price for tickets is at the moment £7 but it will go up closer to the event so don't procrastinate!

By the way the theme is space. Looking forward to seeing you all there!
There is a CUSU Referendum between 27th January (this Wednesday) and 3rd March (next Wednesday), voting on whether there should be a full time Disabled Students' Officer working at CUSU. All members of the College are allowed to vote in this Referendum, so this is an opportunity to put your democratic right to vote into practice. More information about the referendum can be found here.
There will also be a debate about this at CUSU TOMORROW EVENING. Further details can be found here.
Wondering why we've been a little quiet recently? (Even noticed!?)
Well, that's because we've been planning (in our opinion), the most exciting event on the JCR termcard so far: a magazine party for The Goat Post! (Facebook event)
🐐 🐐 🐐 PLUS: we're currently searching for a magazine photographer to document the party and to shoot our cover and editorial spread- if you'd be interested, or know anyone who might be, (at Fitz or not), get in touch, (Danni at firstname.lastname@example.org) This is a chance to get your name in print!
Billy love, The Goat Post team 🐐 🐐 🐐
The latest edition of the Billy Bulletin is hot off the press! Idle away a good 30 seconds reading through it.
The ethical affairs team- Tasha Pick, Rebecca Marchant and Hana Gudelis- want to hold a documentary screening every term in the Gordon Cameron Lecture Theatre because who doesn't love a good documentary. Before we start deciding titles please do email in any films you would like to share with people at Fitz and we will look into them! There will also be food and drinks at each screening so its gunna be sick.
"STUDENT MINDS CAMBRIDGE NEEDS YOU!
Want a low commitment role that looks great on your CV?
We are looking for college reps from each year to help us raise awareness about mental health.
As a college rep, your main role will be to publicise SMC events in college, and to be a point of contact between the SMC committee and the welfare officers and staff in your college. We will also hold termly college rep meetings, where we can discuss ideas on how best to promote mental health in your college. For more details see the poster below.
It's a low commitment role that is really effective and essential for raising awareness about such an important issue. To apply, please email Alisha Burman (arb95), with your full name, crsID, college, year group and a sentence on why you’d like to be a rep by Wednesday 27th January."
This message comes to you in five parts.
1) Your voice needs to be heard.
The JCR will be discussing the housing ballot this week, as always our meetings are open so join us at 5pm this Saturday to discuss some alterations to last year's system.
2) ‘Burns week’ is coming your way
Your fabulous Ents team will be holding a bop this Wednesday in the Reddaway Room until 10:45pm after the Burns night formal, this allows you to continue your merriment post formal, pre heading out into Cambridge to finish your night. If you still want to attend a classic ceilidh then please head on over to Churchill where there is a ceilidh being held in their bar (room is tight though so sneak in quietly). FRIDAY NIGHT Fitz are holding their annual ceilidh, please come and join in formal or no formal, the MCR are even selling some alcohol at discounted rates..
3) Room booking is now online
Head to this link on MyFitz (MyFitz → Students → Room Booking Request) to book out a room in college. Once you have filled in the online table a room booking form will be emailed to you for you to fill out. (Thank you Alex & Damiano)
4) SCOs Student Computer Officers
Please use them if you need them! Go to MyFitz → Help desk → Report a problem and under category select Student IT (SCO). Whether you can’t work out how to connect to the college wifi, can’t work out how to print direct from your own laptop in the library, or just if the printers are jammed on a weekend – utilise the service as it’s a good one.
5) College Wifi
After some shaky wifi speeds last term the number of helpdesk requests seems to have dropped. Please get in touch if you’re still experiencing a lack of internet and continue sending in IT reports, it’s the only way college will know the problem has continued.
